Day 2 There / Day 2 Back

Sunshiny Afternoon

March 2, 2007

marie-sewing.jpgWhat an amazing vacation so far! Yesterday, Marie and I began one of those fleece Tie Blankets, only we can’t just be normal. Jessie Lynn will probably be attending University of SC next year, and Marie wanted to use red camouflage fabric on one side and USC fabric on the other- only we couldn’t find USC fabric in fleece, and we couldn’t find red camo. So we got black camo and solid red material, and then some USC cotton and we made, in essence, two 18” square quilt blocks to sew to the front of the quilt.

Yesterday it rained all day, so no biggie. It was kind of horrible overnight weather-wise and I had a hard time getting to sleep because of the Tornado Watch and the rain and whipping winds. But this morning was beautiful and peaceful and sunny. It was truly amazing, so Rob and I went for a walk. I just love the scenery.

My “Date”

I called Melissa this afternoon and left a message. I was worried that her son was still sick and she wouldn’t be able to come, but she called me back and we decided to meet in an hour. I was buzzing around here getting my shirt ironed (I packed quickly, and not very much, so I had to iron everything these last two days) and asking Rob and his sister Marie if they were staying here or coming with me They took a while to get organized and we left in just enough time to meet at Mc Donald’s.

Mc Donald’s? Yeah. I know it was horribly uninventive of me. I just couldn’t think of a coffee shop or something cool at our exit on the highway. Melissa didn’t  know our exit very well either, so she agreed, somewhat hesitantly.

Then suddenly (thank you God!), I remembered a coffee shop we went by yesterday joemuggs.jpgbefore we had lunch. It was inside a bookstore, so I called Melissa and we decided to meet there. Cool idea, until we went inside and there were people and “stuff” strewn all over the lounge area.

I freaked (only slightly) and asked Rob to please go to the coffee shop on the other side of the shopping area and see if they were busy or if I could call M again and have our party moved. Marie was talking to people and I (very wrongly) was embarrassed because I thought she was … I don’t know being obnoxious, but I walked away.

Then Marie told me some of the best words I’ve heard all day long. There’s drawing, and cake and juice for kids because of Dr. Seuss’ Birthday. YESSSSS. So not only did the lounge chairs clear out so Rob, Marie, Melissa, and I got to chill out and talk in comfort, but her son and daughter were able to eat doughnuts and juice and draw pictures with a lady dressed up as Cat in the Hat. Really she just wore a hat. And she had THE BEST English accent. ;-)

 Awesome!

Really, meeting Melissa and 3 of her 5 kids was a blessing. It was so awesome to meet a fellow blogger. She said that she felt like she was meeting a celebrity, and frankly, I felt that way too. I saw her walking up with her kids and I knew immediately it was her because of the beautiful smile and gorgeous dark hair.

As is always the case, Rob ends up being a bigger kid than even the kids…

And I get along really well with the girls…

you really just have to adore all of the facial expressions… plus she smelled so baby-licious. I know all of you moms know what I’m talking about.

So that was day 2 at Marie and Ken’s house.

Day Two At Home

We went to Detroit again today because my mom was sick. It turns out she does have bronchitis, but she is doing much better on medications today.

The shorty story with my dad is that they can neither do surgery or a VNS implant on him because it’s called Primary Generalized Refractory Epilepsy. Basically that means it’s all over and not localized at all. But on the bright side, they are keeping him for several more days to straighten out medications.

That’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience, to be able to get his meds checked and rechecked several times a day, all while hooked up to, I think, a constant EEG machine. It’s good that he will be resting and not have to be working or whatever.

Really it’s all just blessings all around.

 God is so good!

This is Rob and his sister Marie at the Olive Garden that night… but it’s such an awesome memory and awesome story that I will save it to post tomorrow.
