7 Meme-ish Things

1. I don’t like to play by the rules, but I usually do.

2. I am infinitely intrigued by papers, inks, quill pens, sealing wax, etc. All authentic and old fashioned.

3. I could sit and look out the window at the snow for hours in silence. It’s so peaceful.

4. My greatest dream when I was a kid was that I would “help people” when I grew up. I just realized a minute ago that I’m living that dream. What an awesome feeling. Food bank volunteer, Hospice Volunteer, Bible Study teacher, VBS teacher, Sunday School teacher, and soon-to-be Foster Parent. Yeah, I guess I have arrived.

5. I have always wanted to go to Paris, but I don’t like most French things. I want to go to the Eiffel Tower, even though I HATE heights.

6. As a teen, my mom required me to do new things in order to be “well rounded.” I resent this a little now when I find I am adequate at a great many things, but truly excel at nothing.

7.  Even if I like and want something (like red siding on my house, or a Jeep), I completely refuse to get it if I find that it’s becoming a fad. It seems I am about 2 years ahead of most people when it comes to home decor (I had an “apple” kitchen 10 years ago) and I don’t like to keep things the same all the time. Another example: I have a piercing at the very top of my right ear. When several customers came into Work with the same piercing, I took my earring out, never to put it back again.

I just like to be different. And I say that as though being 6 feet tall and a redhead are just normal, mundane things.

From your list, it sounds to me like you excel at more than you give yourself credit. I love red siding and the pic on your latest post of the barn in the snow is fantastic.

Number 1 describes me too. As for number 6, it would seem to me that you’ve probably missed or overlooked the things you excel at. Of course, you do seem to be a perfectionist, and as a fellow perfectionist, I never feel I am truly great at anything, mostly because I can’t do it perfectly. But I am pretty sure that those closest to you could list a great deal of things that you excel at. And to start that last, I would say you are pretty darn good at taking pictures! You have an eye for beauty, and you find it in the simplest of things. (Like a red barn and fence covered in snow). Amazing.
