Little Women
I’ve begun “Little Women” on dailylit.com and I’m laughing hysterically at the mishaps from Chapter 2 when the 2 oldest are getting ready for a party. This sentence was the last before the festivities:
Meg’s high-heeled slippers were very tight and hurt her, though she would not own it, and Jo’s nineteen hairpins all seemed stuck straight into her head, which was not exactly comfortable, but, dear me, let us be elegant or die.
A few things have come to mind as I’m reading this book.
-
It’s vaguely reminiscent of the 80’s tv show “The Facts of Life.”
-
It’s apparently written for youngsters. I mean, I don’t believe it to be great literature… but still amusing in a more childlike way than, say, Little House on the Prairie books.
-
I love these girls, even if the dialogue is a bit contrived.
Now ready for work, I go!!!

Oh, I love the story of Little Women, and I especially enjoy the wisdom of Marme. Focus On The Family has a radio drama they put out of Little Women that is just fabulous. We’ve listened to it many times on long road trips, since it runs for 4 hours. I would highly recommend it.

I do so much enjoy well turned phrases, ones that draw pictures with words and then draw you into the picture. ec
