ABC’s of Jay’s Morning

March 12, 2008

Abandoned, blue, crushed, drear.
I felt it this morning when I woke up. First thing, the tears started.
Embarassed, foolish, gloomy, hopeless.
But it wouldn’t stay that way for too long. Something had to change.
Irresolute, jumpy, kicked, lonely.
We prayed and then I felt something different.
Mercies, new, openness, peace.
The peace which passes understanding, my friends.
Quiet, rest, smiles, thankful.
Full of thanks [...]

Bleh…

March 11, 2008

My brain is numb. All of this paperwork for the Fostering application process! All of the tears I have cried over the last few days regarding the maybe/maybe not situation.
 *sigh*
You know, American Idol is great for an brain that’s spinning in circles. You only have to pay attention for 5 minutes and you don’t lose [...]

When Things Don’t Go Our Way

March 9, 2008

I got an email from a dear friend last night, that would almost lead me to believe that Rob and I “jumped the gun” about something very important to us. The details are not important right now, but this is: what we do when things don’t go our way.
When things don’t go our way, do [...]

Foster Training 101

March 8, 2008

Today was our first session of Foster Training. I learned things today that made my heart sick…

An Ugly Affair

March 7, 2008

The sun’s going down, and the artistry of the black trees against the crimson and orange sky is breathtaking. Our lives are changing in many ways, and yet we can still see tremendous beauty in the world around us.
Tonight we went to the Old Folks’ Home to see our Hospice patients. I hadn’t met them [...]

The Classics

March 6, 2008

I have barely read any of “The Classics.”
Ones I have not read:

 Moby Dick

A Tale of Two Cities (ok MAYBE in HS literature, but I don’t think so)

Huckleberry Finn

Black Beauty (as a kid’s book only)

A Journey to the Center of the Earth

Jane Eyre

Cannery Row

Catcher in the Rye

Little Women

One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest

 Ones I have read:

Of [...]

Mag Family Update

March 4, 2008

I’ve written a few times about the Mag family, whose 19-year-old son had a blood clot in his brain on the day of his graduation openhouse last May, and who’s been completely paralyzed since. His family is completely amazing.
Rob and I traded our double bed with them for a set of bunk beds for when [...]

The Climax

March 3, 2008

This is positively the best part of Emma, by Jane Austen. I just can’t help myself.
CHAPTER XIII (CONT’D)
Seldom, very seldom, does complete truth belong to any human disclosure; seldom can it happen that something is not a little disguised, or a little mistaken; but where, as in this case, though the conduct is mistaken, the [...]

On Naming My House

March 2, 2008

I’m 3/4 the way through Emma, by Jane Austen.
The movie, starring Gwyneth Paltrow will be on PBS the evening of March 23, btw.
In it, most of the nicer homes have names, such as Emma Woodhouse’s “Hartfield,” Mr. Knightley’s “Donwell Abbey,” and Mr. & Mrs. Weston’s “Randalls.”
I so love the idea of naming homes. Even on [...]

I Sing Because I’m Happy

March 1, 2008

Mainly I’ve been praying today. Inter-woven through the dishes and the vacuuming, and on breaks from the movie, my heart turns to the Lord in prayer. Now, friends is the time to stand up and speak of my faith. Now, when I’m not “feeling” it…
So many of you sweet people will applaud and tell me [...]

Room With A View

March 1, 2008

This beautifully sunshiny day, my darling love is at a Pastor’s Conference just a dozen miles away. The shadows from the trees and the remnants of the garden outside my window are playing across the glittery snowbank next to the house. My heart is soaring.
No reason why, really. Just cherished time to myself, along with [...]
